John Preston Neale; [Thomas Moule]: Views of the Seats of Noblemen and Gentlemen, in England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. London: Published for the Proprietors by W.H. Reid, 1818[-1819?]. Volume I only (but see below). First edition. Tall 8vo (23.5 cm) in early/period diced calf, decorated and lettered in gilt, marbled page edges and endpapers. Text (unpaginated) by Thomas Moule; 101 engraved plates by J. P. Neale, with tissue guards.

Despite what the title-page states, this appears to contain more than just the first volume from 1818, as there are considerably more than the 72 plates usually found in each volume of Neale's work; additionally, the original owner has had his bookbinder stamp the foot of the spine with the years “1818-1819.” In any case, a handsome collection of 101 finely engraved views. Binding with minimal rubbing and wear to the edges, a few small scuff marks; contents with occasional light toning, spotting and offsetting, but generally very good, quite clean and fresh, firmly and attractively bound. Front paste-down with the early bookbinder's label of Hamilton of Edinburgh.
