1895 C.R. Hettel Jewelry Company, St. Louis, Mo. [cover title]. Trade catalogue used as a scrapbook, with Haley’s Comet and deaf-muteinterest.   Photos on request.  Trade terms.  $150 + s/h 222p, offering hundreds ofitems: watches, clocks, tea sets, knives, novelties, figurines, silver-platedware, lockets, diamonds, gold-headed canes, glasses, chains, even a few pagesof violins and guitars, etc. etc. Abundant line ills. with prices. About half the rectos are pasted over with many various newspaperarticles--verse, household tips, current events (crimes, social notes, thedeath of Mrs. O’Leary, train wrecks and other disasters), etc.  Of special interest are the many 1910 clippingsabout Haley’s Comet, many of which are from Los Angeles and also Wichitapapers.  Most of the other clippingsources are unidentified.  There are atleast two articles about deaf-mutes, plus pictures of the “Co-Eds” at GallaudetCollege and of Edward Allan Fay, a Gallaudet professor.  Other random pieces throughout, such as a manuscriptcopy of “Sheridan’s Ride,” a manuscript recipe for “nice white candy,” and anink drawing dated 1895.  On the rearendpapers and the verso of the index are seven wonderful colored drawings ofhorses and vehicles, almost all of them named. They appear to be by a child, in imitation of contemporary illustrationsof trotting and draft horses. Condition: poor butcomplete.  Back cover, index, and rearendpapers detached.  Front cover worn,opening pages dampstained, pages dogeared. Limp cloth.  Ca. 8 x 10 inches.
