Sir John Ross: Narrative of a Second Voyage in Search of a North-West Passage, and of a Residence in the Arctic Regions during the Years 1829, 1830, 1831, 1832, 1833. Including the Reports of Commander, now Captain, James Clark Ross, R.N., F.R.S., F.L.S., &c. London: A. W. Webster, 156 Regent Street, 1835. First edition. Large 4to (32 cm) in modern half leather over pebbled cloth, new endpapers; [8], xxxiii, [1], 740 pp.; with 24 plates, nine of which are colored, and 6 maps and charts, two with coloring, including the large folding map (complete). Abbey Travel 636; Arctic Bibliography 14866; Sabin 73381.

John Ross's account of his harrowing four-year ordeal in the Arctic, during which his nephew James discovered the North Magnetic Pole. Offsetting from the text to several plates, one chart with a short closed tear to the margin neatly repaired on the verso, large folding map with tear in the margin; early owner's ink initials to the title-page; contents with toning and intermittent mostly light damp-staining to the edges, a few stray small spots, but without the foxing and browning often found; in all, a very good, clean and sound copy.
