Good morning, all.

I have for sale today a collection of 22 __American State Papers__, American Archives__, and __Congressional Globes__. Each item for sale is depicted pics I can send and with details galore if you need them further.

It is a collection I'm selling on consignment for another beloved party (a gentleman bookseller mentor, in this case). Price is firm, shipping will be at cost, packing will be within an inch of their lives. Again, particular details can be relayed to you most fulsomely on request, no sweat.

Peter Force, born 1790, died 1868, was a printer, amateur historian, eventual mayor of Washington, and an inveterate document collector. The crowning achievement of his profession life was to bring out a lengthy series he dubbed the American Archives, comprising more than 20 folio-sized volumes of two-columned texts, all original documents, of American history from the early colonial period through the Congress of 1789, including private correspondence, legislative records, personal communications, and government business. It took an Act of Congress to enable and supervise the work. Six volumes in Series Four were published from 1837 to 1846, and then several more volumes in the Fifth Series were published by 1853. All covered the three years prior to American Independence. Political infighting prevented the completion of his monumental project.

Each massively heavy, oversized volume is a sturdy, tightly bound, internally clean hardcover copy, quite unusual in the trade, with unbruised tips, neat and tidy paste-downs; not ex-library. Except for items detailed below, all rebound in black or dark gray cloth, with light dust soiling thereto, but with new endpapers, and remarkably clean and unmarked of interiors. Predictable age-toning to text, with some smudges; damp-staining to fore-margins, but not intruding on text, and some waviness thereto.
