London and New York: Constable & Co Ltd; Richard R. Smith Inc, 1930. First
Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. A Very Good + copy of the first
edition, first printing in the Publisher's original binding (minor rubbing
to the leading board corners, small push near the spine panel's rear bottom
left, a bit of general wear, a couple of small stains to the rear of the
spine material) being one of only 500 copies issued in this Limited Edition
with the first two leaves following the title leaf being uncut at their
leading edge. This Volume is the first in a series of volumes comprising
The History of Bookbinding Technique and Design and covers the evolution of
books from those issued in paper wrappers into those issued in boards,
paper labels, cloth, ink-blocking on cloth and other ornamentation. Copies
of this notable work are, at the time of listing, are EXCEEDINGLY SCARCE TO

Slip of Paper advertising the Hotel Union in Oye, Norway, SIGNED AND DATED
BY BJORN BJORNSON

Oye, Norway: Bjorn Bjornson, 1896. First Edition, First Printing. [No
Binding]. A slip of paper measuring approximately 4 1/4 inches x
approximately 5 1/2 inches showing the Hotel Union in Oye, Norway on the
recto and SIGNED, DATED, AND PLACED BY BJORN BJORNSON on the verso in
pencil and there dated by him 1 August 1896. The slip is in Very Good
condition with some toning, fold lines, and some wrinkling. The Signature,
Place, and Date are in Bjornson's strong hand and are cleanly written
without any erasures. Bjorn Bjornson (1832-1910) was a Norwegian Dramatist,
Author, and Poet who won the 1903 Nobel Prize in Literature "as a tribute
to his noble, magnificent and versatile poetry, which has always been
distinguished by both the freshness of its inspiration and the rare purity
of its spirit." His award made Bjornson the third winner of that
highly-regarded prize. A Very Good example of Bjorn Bjornson's original
signature, SIGNED, PLACED, AND DATED BY THE GREAT WRITER. Very good. Item

Bloomington, IN: University of Indiana Press, 1999. First Edition, First
Printing. Hardcover. A Fine, essentially Superior, unread and tight copy of
the first edition, first printing (quite slight curve to the front board)
of this collection of writings by and about Charles Johnson. Charles
Johnson is a noted author of novels, short stories, screen-and-teleplays,
and essays, with much of his writing having a philosophical bent. His first
short story collection, "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", was short-listed for
the PEN/Faulkner Award and his best-known novel "Middle Passage" - a work
of historical fiction and winner of the 1990 U.S. National Book Award for
Fiction - centers on Rutherford Calhoun, a freed slave who unknowingly
boards a slave ship bound for Africa in order to escape a forced marriage.
This copy has been signed by Johnson on the title page, making it a rather
