Charles de Remusat: Essais de philosophie. Paris: Librairie philosophique de Ladrange, 1842. Two volumes. [WITH] De la philosphie allemande. Rapport a l'Academie des sciences morales et politiques. Paris: Librairie philosophique de Ladrange, 1845. First editions. Together, three volumes, 8vo (21.5 cm), in full polished cat's-paw calf richly tooled in gilt, with gilt-lettered morocco spine labels.

Two separate works in three volumes, comprising essays on Descartes, Kant, Hegel, Reid, Schelling, etc., by Remusat (1797-1875), a politician, writer and academician, said to be the model for Balzac's character, Henri de Marzay. Contents with the scattered foxing often found in French books of the period (most noticeable on the first and last few leaves), else clean and sound in fine, strikingly handsome bindings which show some modest wear to the corners and rubbing to the spines.
