WILLIAMS. New York: McDowell, Obolensky, (1957). First Edition. Wallace
A35. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the poet "For my good friend/Peter
Sammartino/with affectionate greetings" in his very shaky hand.
Sammartino, as president of Rutgers University, presented an Honorary
Doctor of Laws degree to Williams in 1959. Williams contributed a poem
to a pamphlet published in 1959 and not noted by Wallace entitled
"Dinner in Honor of Dr. Peter Sammartino." Near Fine in a moderately

Peter Sammartino, the founder of Fairleigh Dickinson University and an

friend of Williams. Sammartino and his wife, both in their late 80s and
suffering from ill health, committed murder-suicide in 1992.
