INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author to "Joanna/from her brother,/W.D. 
Howells." We are not sure who the recipient is as Howells, one of eight 
chidlren, did not have a sister named Joanna. He did have a brother 
named John, but he died in 1864. Slight hinge crack. Spine sunned and a
