Joseph Cradock: Literary and Miscellaneous Memoirs. London: Printed for the Author, by J. Nichols and Son, 1826. Two volumes, 8vo (22 cm), in early/period half calf and marbled boards, marbled endpapers; [4], 294, [2] pp.; [2], 293, [3] pp.; with two engraved folding maps. First edition of vol. II.

Joseph Cradock (1742-1826), a peripheral, but observant, figure in the late-Georgian literary scene, was a playwright and a poet, and a close friend of David Garrick. The second volume, here in a first edition, was the last to be published in his lifetime and consists entirely of an account of his travels in France "made during three Years [1783-86] just previous to the Commencement of the Revolution" and includes two folding maps. A four-volume edition of his Memoirs, expanded with reprints of Cradock's previously published works, was issued posthumously in 1828 by his publisher, the antiquarian John Nichols.

Bindings with modest rubbing, bumping and wear to the extremities; contents with some occasional light toning and spotting (most noticeable on the endpapers and preliminaries), a bit of offsetting to the maps, otherwise very clean and fresh, firmly bound.
