More-or-less independent volume, the first published on the topography and natural history of the Cape. Vol 1 concerned the
History of the Hottentots. "When following the western side of the African coastline from the equator, however, the Cape of
Good Hope marks the point where a ship begins to travel more eastward than southward..."
The book bears two armorial bookplates. The first, of John Rogers, shows four caribou( or reindeer?) -- one larger animal at
the top with a double oak-leaf and acorn its mouth, and three smaller ones within the shield below, with the latin phrase:
Justum Perficite Nihil Timeto". The next page bears the signature of "J. Forbush". The second bookplate affixed to the verso
of the title page, marks the book as being from the library of Newburgh Hamilton (1691–1761) "an Irish author and
librettist.... known to have been George Frederick Handel's librettist for three works: Alexander's Feast (1736), Samson
(1743) and the Occasional Oratorio (1746)..." (Wikipedia).
