A Virginian [pseud.]: The American Wanderer, through Various Parts of Europe, in a Series of Letters to a Lady, (Interspersed with a Variety of Interesting Anecdotes) by a Virginian. London: Printed for J. Robson, Bookseller, in New Bond Street, MDCCLXXXIII [1783]. First edition; 8vo (20.5 cm) in early/period calf-backed marbled boards; xvi + 422 pp. Sabin 1258; ESTC T162394.

Chatty epistolary account of the wanderings of the anonymous author, a purported Virginian, through England and, more extensively, France during the years 1776-77. The author has sometimes been identified as Arthur Lee, but dates do not seem to fit his movements in those years. A rather uncommon book.

Binding worn and rubbed, front board detached, rear board loosening but holding; contents with occasional light toning, a few stray spots and stains, but generally very clean and sound. Title-page with the early owner's signature of Benjamin Kittmer.
