Oliver Goldsmith; Thomas Bewick (illus.): A Pretty Book of Pictures for Little Masters and Misses, or, Tommy Trip's History of Beasts and Birds, with a Familiar Description of Each in Verse and Prose. To which is prefix'd, the History of Little Tom Trip himself, of his Dog Jouler, and of Woglog the great Giant. Written by Oliver Goldsmith...The Fifteenth Edition. Embellished with Charming Engravings on Wood from the Original Blocks engraved by Thomas Bewick... With the History, Adventures and Seclusion of the said Blocks for nearly 100 Years set forth in a Preface by the Publisher. London: Printed for, and Published by, Edwin Pearson, Bewick Repository... 1867.

First edition thus: "Only 250 Copies Printed." Small 4to (22 cm) in a full tree calf binding by Zaehnsdorf, decorated in gilt, gilt-lettered morocco spine labels, top page edges gilt, marbled endpapers; xvi, 124 pp. With ca. 77 mounted woodcuts by Thomas Bewick from his original blocks. Binding with modest rubbing and wear, small areas of abrasion to the front and rear boards, front hinge tender but secure; contents mildly toned, scattered light spotting, otherwise clean and sound, handsomely bound.

With the attractive self-designed bookplate (signed "T.H.") of the noted Bewick collector Rev. Thomas Hugo (1820-1876), British antiquary, musician and rector of West Hackney: "He was best known for his extensive collection of the works of the brothers Bewick of Newcastle, which included many of the original wood-blocks. His three works, 1866, 1868, and 1870, on the wood-cuts and wood-blocks of T. and J. Bewick are exhaustive at all points" (DNB).
