Rupert Presinger: Ascesis Benedictina : seu varia opuscula ascetica iuxta mentem et spiritum regulae S. P. Benedicti.... Augustae Vindelicorum et Oeniponti [Augsburg and Innsbruck]: sumptibus Josephi Wolff, MDCCLVII [1757]. Small 4to (20.5) in an early/period "cat's paw" binding, the spine elaborately tooled in gilt, gilt-lettered morocco spine label, page edges dyed red; [20], 549, [9] pp.; woodcut decorations and tail-pieces.

A handsomely printed work on Benedictine asceticism, ostentatiously bound in a striking "cat's paw"-style goatskin binding of the period. Modest wear to the edges, bumping to the corners, a few scuff marks to the front and rear boards; deaccessioned from the Oblatorum S. Caroli Bibliotecha, Bayswater (i.e., the library of the Oblates of St. Charles, of St. Mary of the Angels Church in Bayswater, London), with its bookplate and ink stamps to the endpapers, title-page and a few other leaves; occasional light toning and foxing to the contents, heavier browning to ca. 25 leaves in signatures Nnn-Ttt,, else the contents are very bright and fresh, firmly bound. Front paste-down with the nineteenth-century bookseller's label of "C. J. Stewart, 11 King William St., W. Strand, London."
