The Gentleman's Magazine, and Historical Chronicle. Volume XXV [25]. For the Year MDCCLV [1755]. London: Printed for D. Henry, and R. Cave, at St. John's Gate, [1755]. Twelve monthly issues (Jan.-Dec.), plus the supplement, volume title, indices and preface. Thick 8vo (21.5 cm) in full early/period calf; [4] + 595 + [25] pp.; with numerous charts and tables, musical notation, in-text woodcut diagrams and illustrations, plus 26 engraved plates and maps (five folding, one hand-colored).

With much on the FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR (Seven Years' War) and the AMERICAN COLONIES, including:
	- A folding MAP OF THE BRITISH AND FRENCH SETTLEMENTS IN AMERICA showing "a view of of our just claims, and the encroachments of the French" (short closed tear to lower-left edge).
	- Woodcut PLANS of: Three Forts on the Kennebeck in New England; Fort Frederick at Crown Point [New York]; Lake George.
	- "Disputes in Pensylvania[sic]," explaining the Primary Cause of Gen. Braddock's Defeat.
	- Gov. Dinwiddie's Speech to the Assembly of VIRGINIA, containing an early reference to GEORGE WASHINGTON: "The poor men who suffered at the meadows with colonel Washington, I recommend to your favour, as they were disabled in the service of their country."
	- Several detailed accounts of Mohawks and other INDIAN TRIBES involved in the conflict, e.g.: The Answer of the Six Nations to the general Speech made to them by the Lieut. Gov. of New York ("The following Speeches are faithful Translations of those that were made by the Indian Chiefs...and cannot fail to be agreeable to our Readers, as they contain...some Strains of native Eloquence which might have done Honour to Tully or Demosthenes"); etc.
	- Observations on the Conduct of the French in America.
	- Reflections on the Conduct of the British in America, by a French Writer.
	- Etc., etc.

	- Plates of Murray's Armillary Trigonometer, Smeaton's Pyrometer, and A Machine for measuring a Ship's Way, as well as a woodcut engravings of An improved Barometer, An Electrical Machine, and A Machine for making Indigo.
	- Seven PLATES OF SHELLS.
	- Plus monthly Prices of Stocks and Goods, Account of Theatrical Performances, Register of Books published, Bills of Mortality, Obituaries, listing of Bankrupts; newspaper extracts; and much more.

Binding rubbed, creasing to the spine, bumping and wear to the corners, joints starting at the top and bottom but the boards are secure; contents toned with occasional mild browning and offsetting, otherwise clean and sound, firmly bound.
