The Fight at Dame Europa’s School

Text by William Henry Pullen, illustrated by Thomas Nast. Published in
New York by Francis B. Felt & Co. in 1871.

A satiric commentary on the Franco-Prussian War, “Showing how the
German boy thrashed the French boy; and how the English boy looked
on”, with 33 line illustrations by Thomas Nast. With an interesting
and somewhat eerie inscription on the flyleaf- “To my sister Sylvia on
her birthday and appropriately on the start of another ‘Dame Europa’
struggle. -Jack Appel, Sept. 13, 1939”.

Red publisher’s cloth with gilt titles. 5”x7.5”, 34 pages, plus an
advertising leaf, black & white line illustrations. Covers with some
minor rubbing, otherwise clean and nice. $40, plus $3 shipping.
