The Gentleman's Magazine: and Historical Chronicle. Volume LVI [56]. For the Year MDCCLXXXVI [1786]. Part the First. London: Printed by John Nichols for David Henry, 1786. Six monthly issues (January-June), plus an index. Thick 8vo in early/period calf-backed marbled boards, gilt-lettered morocco spine label; iv, 531, [15] pp.; with 12 copper-engraved plates, eight of which are folding (complete).

The PLATES include: a View of the Ruins of the Chapel of St. Rule, at St. Andrews, Scotland; Internal View of the Caverns near Nottingham; the Barberini, or Portland Vase; a Flying-Ship or Air Balloon invented in 1709 at the Brasils; Antient Painting in 16 compartments [depicting] the sufferings of Henry VI contrasted with those of Job; Cathedral Church of Seez, in Normandy; an Ice-boat used in Holland; Julian's Bower, a Maze at Aukborough in Lincolnshire; plus miscellaneous antiquities, curiosities, coins, inscriptions, etc.
