[Charles William Rothery:] Notes on a Yacht Voyage to Hardanger Fjord, and the Adjacent Estuaries. By a Yachting Dabbler. London: Longman, Brown, Green, and Longman, [1855]. First edition (second issue?), 8vo (23 cm), original publisher's cloth decorated in blind and gilt, in a modern mylar jacket and cloth slipcase; [2], xxvii, [1], 105, [5] pp. With 26 tissue-guarded woodcut, steel engraved, and lithograph plates (of which 15 are tinted, one double-page) and a tinted folding map (complete).

Binding with some modest rubbing and wear, sunning to the spine, a touch of soiling to the rear board; contents with mild toning to the text leaves, a closed marginal tear to one leaf, a few scattered small spots, else clean and sharp, firmly bound. A very good copy of what a previous owner's penciled note on the front flyleaf describes as "an exquisite little Scandinavian curio." A lively, well-illustrated account of Rothery's 1845 voyage to the Hardanger Fjord and environs, "the most interesting district in Norway." As the author admits in his preface, the primary purpose of the book was to exhibit the "sketches" he'd made of the scenery and people of the region: "Illustrations being the chief object, the accompanying narrative was written to aid the interest attached to them, and it is expected that the reader's attention will be more diverted by the drawings than with the descriptive part."
