BURKE, JOHN. BERNARD. VISITATION OF THE SEATS AND ARMS OF THE
NOBLEMEN AND GENTLEMEN OF GREAT BRITAIN, A.: Colburn & Co and Hurst
and Blackett (successors to Colburn), 1852-54. Illustrated by well
over 100 tinted lithographic plates and about 50 pages of engravings
of coats of arms. All plates are like new and protected by tissue
guards. 4 volumes. Contemporary three quarter crushed brown morocco
with raised bands green paper-covered boards and gilt lettering,
t.e.g. by Root, in near fine condition. Inscribed by the author,
"With Sir Bernard Burke's kindest regards". No other writing in any
volume. Small 4to. [Text about coats of arms, indices, plates and 999
pages] Fine.

Very scarce complete set of the two series in four volumes. This is a
survey of the mansions and coats of arms of the landed gentry of
England and Ireland. It was written by the author of Burke's Peerage
and Landed Gentry. Ironically, Burke was an Irishman. He was
descended from an old Tipperary family. He was appointed Keeper of
the State Papers of Ireland in 1855.

Not only is the binding in wonderful condition, but the contents are
clean, crisp and free of foxing. $1450.00
