enclosed by a border of type ornaments. Illustrated with an engraved title within
an architectural border, a portrait on the verso of the engraved title, and 195
engraved plates (20 are double page). (Note: plates numbered 148 and 149 are
a single double-page plate). Expertly bound in full modern blind ruled calf
done in antique style. One leaf (f.82) with a paper repair at bottom blank
margin. $37,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
The great “various & ingenious machines” of Ramelli depicts pumps,
fountains, derricks, bridges, mills, hydraulic machinery, military machines, cranes and
pneumatic devices. The engravings are considered among the best early
technological illustrations. Also called the most beautiful book of the history of
