Leather, Quarto, xv, 393 pages, Engraved plates by Tony Johannot. Near Fine.
Attractive volume of La Fontaine's fables, which were patterned very
closely upon those of Aesop. Many lovely tissue-guarded gravures by
Johannot. This edition includes a biographical sketch of Aesop (pp. [9]-22).
Appears to have been rebound, probably late 19th century. Handsome three
quarter leather binding with marbled paper sides, gilt rule and lettering to
spine, gilt rule on both boards, ribbon bookmark, top edge gilt, marbled
endpapers. A few light extremity rubs. $100.00
