SHERMAN,  General  William T. AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED  (ALS).  New
York:  25  Nov. 1890. Two-page letter to author and editor  George  W.
Curtis  granting  permission  to use his letters  for  publication  in
Harper's,  "only  please  keep me out of  controversy."  Sherman  also
briefly  discusses  "the million of human acts accompanying the  great
wave  of  civilization westward." Good content from one of  the  major
military  figures  of the 19th century to one of the central  literary
