Greetings All,

For your consideration:
~
(No. 7709 ) Victor, Orville J. (Editor) (1827-1910). INCIDENTS AND
ANECDOTES OF THE WAR: TOGETHER WITH LIFE SKETCHES OF EMINENT LEADERS, AND
NARRATIVES OF THE MOST MEMORABLE BATTLES FOR THE UNION.
New York: James D. Torrey, Publisher, (1862). Full cloth, Octavo, vi,
[7]-400 pages. Very Good.
Contemporary look at the first two years of the U.S. Civil from the
Northern perspective. The narrative is charged with the emotions of the
times in chapters like "The Spirit of Violence in the South," "Treason in
Tennessee," and "Secession Atrocity on the Field." Also presents information
on the early battles of the war, most of which were disasters for the
Northern side. General Grant was just turning things around in the West and
the accounts herein of the battles in front of Forts Henry and Donelson and
the Battle of Pittsburg Landing provide a few bright spots for the author.
See DORNBUSCH VOL. III, #521; NEVINS et al, CWB p. 47. Bound in original
brown cloth with blind-stamped boards, gilt-stamped spine. Some fading and
mild rubs to cloth, prior owner name pencilled on front free endpaper, same
name and gift inscription dated 1863 on rear free endpaper. Some moderate
foxing intermittently throughout. Hinges not cracked, binding strong.
