original title page. 8vo. Three-quarter vellum
over tan paper-covered boards, top edge gilt with
brown silk bookmarks (hardback). First edition
thus. No. 355 of 500 copies in Olde Style type on
Aurelian Dell Wove Natural paper. One of the
great works of literature, in a wonderful
production. First published in 1621. About fine
with minor rubbing to spines, most leaves still
unopened (uncut) in a very good shelfworn

PHILOSOPHICALLY, MEDICINALLY, HISTORICALLY OPENED
AND CUT UP [TWO VOLUMES]. London: Longman, Rees &
Co. etc, 1837. xxiv, 583 pp.; 612 pp. 8vo. Full
polished blind ruled tan calf, raised bands, gilt
decorated compartments, maroon morocco spine
labels, outer dentelles (hardback). New edition,
corrected, to which is prefixed an account of the
author. Bookplate of James Heywood Markland,
D.C.L., F.R.S (1788-1864), antiquary fellow of
the Royal Society, author of Chester Mysteries,
1818; Remarks on English Churches, Prayers and
Life of Bishop Ken, and other works and papers,
chiefly on archæology and ecclesiology. Spines
rubbed mainly at the extremities, one corner
worn, a few tiny nicks to one edge, scattered
foxing, leaves crisp, one short pencil notation
in an unknown hand, overall very good or better
