1)      CORTOT (ALFRED)    (1877- 1962).   French 
composer and virtuoso pianist.    Inscribed 
photograph, 16.5 x  11.3 cm..   Rembrandt Studio 
of Los Angeles, 1919.  Lightly mounted on gray 
card, fine condition.  Inscribed in French to the 
American baritone who founded the Berkeley 
Musical Association, 1910.  Five concerts 
sponsored annually.  Cortot appeared several times for Chamberlain.

2)      THE ENGLISH SINGERS.  Norman Notley; 
Norman Stone; Flora Mann; Nellie Corson; Lillian Berger; Cuthbert Kelly.

  (formed 1920), the group appeared for The 
Berkeley [California] Musical Association several 
times over the years. The organization was 
founded by William Edwin Chamberlain, an American 
baritone, in 1910, lasting at least until 1935, 
sponsoring five concerts a year.  Original 
photograph, 17.5 x 22.5 cm., ca 1929.   Signed 
below by each of the sextet, who are sitting at a 
broad table, singing; inscribed  [by Kelly, 
probably] above “To Mr. Chamberlain with sincere 
regards from The English Singers”

Program for the second concert, twentieth season, 
Berkeley Musical Association, December 17, 
1929.  Broadside, 27.5 x 13.3 cm..  16 pieces on 
the program, including Christmas motets; 
madrigals; folk-songs; London street cries; and 
carols by Vaughan Williams; Rubbra; Martin Shaw 
and R. L. Pearsall.  Fine condition.  Signed by 
each of the six singers, in a jaunty pattern down 
the page, inscribed at the top “with best wishes 
from the English Singers” in Kelly’s hand.
