Offering:
BRAID, James. NEURYPNOLOGY; or, The Rationale of Nervous Sleep, considered
in relation with animal magnetism. Illustrated by numerous cases of its
successful application in the relief and cure of disease. London: John
Churchill. 1843. First edition. Small octavo, original cloth, gilt titles
on spine. 265 pp. The first edition of the first book on hypnotism. Braid
initiated modern hypnotism, the word itself is introduced to us here. Spine
chipped at edges and the boards are loose, front free endpaper and perhaps
a half-title leaf missing - the first leaf is the title page. Text
otherwise complete. A fairly rough copy which could use rebacking or
rebinding; still a good copy of a very scarce book.
