ADAMS, John Quincy. ARGUMENT OF JOHN QUINCY ADAMS BEFORE THE
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES.... New York: S. W. Benedict 1841.
First Edition. ...IN THE CASE OF THE UNITED STATES, APPELLANTS, VS.
CINQUE, AND OTHERS, AFRICANS, CAPTURED IN THE SCHOONER AMISTAD.... In
early plain blue wraps; 135 pages. The Amistad case, argued
successfully before the Supreme Court by former President John Quincy
Adams, was one of the most important cases in United States history
helping to energize the fledgling abolitionist movement and to
intensify the conflict over slavery. Steven Spielberg's 1997 film
renewed interest in the historical importance of the case and in
Adams's eloquent argument: "The moment you come to the Declaration of
Independence, that every man has a right to life and liberty, an
inalienable right, this case is decided. I ask nothing more in behalf
of these unfortunate men than this Declaration." About Fine $3500.00
