-"ACTA NOVA REGIAE SOCIETATIS MEDICAE HAVNIENSIS. Volumen I (new series)"
Havniae (Copenhagen); 1818. Also called Volumen V of the prior series,
and with a separate title page titling it such. The Transactions of the
Royal Copenhagen Medical Society for 1818. The Society was founded in 1772
and became a Royal society in 1782; it merged with the Societas
Philiatrica in 1872. This issue contains a large number of articles (in
Latin) dealing with advances and observations in medicine, including
several relating to vaccinations. Card covers. 4.5”x7.75”, xliv + 432
pages, + errata page; bound period blue card covers with an old inked
spine label; covers with some soil and wear; interior with some soil, a
little browning, some light staining, etc; partially unopened; a tight
copy.

-Briggs, L. Vernon. "OCCUPATION AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR RESTRAINT IN THE
TREATMENT OF THE MENTALL ILL. A History of the Passage of Two Bills
through the Massachusetts Legislature" Boston; printed for the author by
Wright & Potter: 1923. The history of three bills (two were passed)
affecting the care and treatment of the mentally ill in the Massachusetts
legislature and the tale of the behind-the-scenes fight, often against
other medical professionals, to get them passed. Hardcover. 6.5"x9.5",
205 pages, b/w plates; light cover soil and a little wear, a little light
internal soil, and a ding/tear that extends through a few pages in the
introduction, with the loss of a letter or two on one page.

-"FRENCH SCIENCE AND THOUGHT" New York; Herbert Reichner: Catalog 4: no
date (early 1960s). A scholarly and extensively annotated catalog from
this knowledgeable bookseller. Softcover. 6”x9”, 112 pages, 440 items,
several b/w illustrations; light soil.

-Helfand, William H. "MEDICINE AND PHARMACY: 100 YEARS OF POSTER ART"
New York State Museum: 1982. An exhibition of posters advertising
medicines (of various efficacies) from the collection of Dr. William H.
Helfand. Most of the posters date from 1880-1910. Softcover. 8.5”x9”, 62
pages, b/w illustrations; a nice copy.

-Silverstein, Theodore. "MEDIEVAL LATIN SCIENTIFIC WRITINGS IN THE
BARBERINI COLLECTION. A Provisional Catalogue" Chicago; The University of
Chicago Press: 1957. An initial catalog of the Medieval Latin scientific
manuscripts held in the Barberini Collection in the Vatican Library, which
had never been catalogued in this way before. Shocking but true. Riveting
beach reading. Fully indexed, and cross-indexed by Initia. Hardcover.
6.25"x9.5", 147 pages. A fine copy.

-Walsh, James J. "THE POPES AND SCIENCE. The History of the Papal
Relations to Science during the Middle Ages and down to our time" New
York; Fordham University Press: 1915. 4th Revised Edition. ‘Notre Dame’
edition. The author (a physician) sets out to show that the long-standing
belief that the Popes have been hostile to science is, in fact, a
misunderstanding of the historical record. He found in his own researches
that "the Popes were as liberal patrons of science as of art...". Walsh
covers the popes of the Middle Ages and Renaissance as they dealt with
anatomical study, dissection, chemistry, surgery, medical education, city
hospitals, insanity, and more. Hardcover. 6.5"x10", xiv + 527 pages, b/w
illustrations. Some cover soil, spine faded, moderate internal browning.

-Zigrosser, Carl. "ARS MEDICA. A COLLECTION OF MEDICAL PRINTS Presented
to the Philadelphia Museum of Art by Smith Kline & French Laboratories"
Philadelphia Museum of Art: 1959. A selection of antique prints touching
on many aspects of medicine, doctors, hospitals, etc. Softcover. 7”x10”,
90 pages, b/w illustrations; light wear.
