1.  AUDSLEY, GEORGE. ASHDOWN.  GEMS OF JAPANESE ART AND HANDICRAFT. 
London: Sampson Low, Marston & Co., 1913. One of 375 copies. 16 x 11 
1/2", large folio. Near fine. This work contains 67 colored 
lithographs and 3 monochrome lithographs. All are exquisite and some 
are further decorated in gilt. Plates are on heavy stock paper. The 
plates were issued unbound and contained in a box-portfolio. There is 
additionally a bound essay on Japanese art by Audsley. Two of the 
colored plates are mis-numbered. Laid-in is the scarce publisher's 
prospective. The arts which are illustrated here are drawing, 
painting, engraving, color printing, embroidery, weaving, lacquer 
working carving, enameling and metal working in gold, silver, bronze 
and iron. Some minor soiling to a few plate margins from fingers and 
minor wear to edges of box. Original ribbon ties are present. Rare

heavy paper with tissue guards. First edition. Original pictorial 
cloth gilt. Elephant folio. Very good. Small number painted at bottom 
of spine. Moderate foxing to first 2 pages. No other marks. Previous 
owners's attractive bookplate. Fine examples of tapestries from

5.  CAMPANA, GIOVANNI. PIETRO, 1808-80.  ANTICHE OPERE IN PLASTICA. 
Rome., 1851, 2. Illustrated by 120 plates tinted, plus alarge tinted 
vignette on title page. Second edition. 2 volumes. Vellum. Folio. 
Complete in this large book which contains both volumes. In the first 
half of the 19th century the Marquess G.P. Campana formed a large 
collection of Roman terracotta reliefs, and the type is still known 
by his name as 'Campana reliefs'. His collection was sold in 1861 and 
was dispersed, mostly to the Louvre, but also to the Hermitage and 
other museums. Campana was the first to discuss this type of relief 
in print. In 1842 he published Antiche opere in plastica, a work 
typical of the first half of the 19th century which devotes itself 
for the most part to mythological or antiquarian explanations of the 
scenes on the plaques. Campana was exiled and stripped of all his 
possessions for defrauding the government of money which he used to 
build his collections. The vellum is peeling from the boards with 
some loss. Contents complete and very good but for some soiling. Very

facsimiles, genealolgy tables, many folded plates. First edition. 
Limited to 200 copies this is # 65. 2 volumes. Full vellum. Signed by 
the author with her initials. 4to. Near fine. Signed by former owner, 
Grace Cicelie Lonsdale of Burley and with her bookplate.  Includes 
several plates, facsimiles, etc. not given in the lists of 
illustrations.. Bit of soiling to boards, minor scattered foxing. 
Much about the rare objects in the house and a complete inventory. 
Title of v. 2 reads: History of Burley-on-the-Hill, Rutland : 
catalogue of pictures, objects, china, manuscripts, miniatures, &c.; 
also curious extracts from accounts ... Author's name does not

9.  JONES, E. ALFRED.  OLD ENGLISH PLATE OF THE EMPOROR OF RUSSIA, 
THE. Letchworth, England : Arden Press, 1909. Illustrated by 50 black 
and white full-page plates. Half morocco with cloth covered boards. 
Original binding. 4to. [lvi; 116 pgs] Very good. Beautiful heavy 
white paper. Contents fine, front board detached but present. A 
lovely book documenting the English plate that was held in the 
collection of the Tsar of Russia at the time of publication. This 
Tsar was Nicholas II, who lost his throne 8 years later and his life, 
a year after that, following The Russian Revolution.  $325.00 {73200}
