Saches or (Sacher), A Reward of Merit, Christmas 1851."  Illustrated with four natural history plates BRILLIANTLY PRINTED IN COLOR by Kronheim, and woodcuts. Stories and essays for older children. [PORTER, George Richardson.]   TREATISE ON THE ORIGIN, PROGRESSIVE IMPROVEMENT, AND PRESENT STATE OF THE SILK MANUFACTURE.  London, 1831.  
First edition.  Engraved title.  Extra series title for "The Cabinet of Useful Arts," edited by Dionysius Lardner.  Old half calf with marbled boards, marbled end papers, spine stamped in gilt.  8vo (6.5 x 4.25"); xv, 339 pages.  Some foxing to endpapers, else a nice, near fine copy of a book often found in worn condition.   Penciled signature on end paper of A. Houghton.  The extra engraved title has an attractive vignette of a family on a terrace (one woman spinning?) engraved by Finden.  Many woodcut illustrations.  Porter, a statistician, was the author of "The Progress of the Nation" and head of the Statistical Dept. of the Board of Trade.  ($110)  $40

Blue cloth stamped in blind and gold, 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches.  Illustrated.  A very good copy with minor shelf wear and stamp of a previous owner to front paste-down.

[REYNOLDS, Lawrence].  RARE BOOKS AND COLLECTIONS OF THE REYNOLDS HISTORICAL LIBRARY.  A BIBLIOGRAPHY.
Birmingham, 1968.  Red cloth stamped in gold, housed in a light green slipcase.  10 x 8 inches.  The slipcase has done its job admirably and the book is in excellent condition.  Frontispiece portrait of Reynolds and facsimile illustrations throughout.  Slipcase with just minimal wear and soiling.  Useful reference for medical and health science collectors.
