Rare early Frank Bennett Fiske photo of Yellow Earrings, Sioux
Indian Woman

This photo from 1904 was taken a few years after Fiske began his long career
as an independent photographer at Fort Yates, North Dakota. The dry plate
image on cabinet card bears Fiske's Fort Yates studio imprint, and a
handwritten notation on the back reads, "Harriet Yellow Earrings, Grand
Rapids School, Little Eagle S.D. Standing Rock Res. 1904."

Fisk took thousands of photographs of the Dakotas, including a substantial
number of Indians. Many of his known images are now in institutional
archives and collections.

The card is about 6-1/2 x 4-1/4 inches, the adhered image is about 5-1/2 x 4
inches. The photo, although slightly pale (sepia-toned ambrotype) is in very
good condition. The card itself has a small watermark in the lower left
corner and tiny chip to the upper right.

The figure is of a lovely young woman, wearing some traditional clothing,
posed in a bare room. Scan on request.

Dealer priced at $175 postpaid.
