Secundus, Joannes. OPERA. Nunc Primum in Lucem Edita... Traiecti Batavorum (Utrecht): Harmannus Borculus. [15]41. 8vo. (328)pp. With the blank (X7) at the end, followed by the final leaf with the large printer's woodcut device on the verso (recto blank). Woodcut device on title-page. Cont. vellum, spine somewhat soiled. The second half of the text with an old water stain at the top 2" of the page. A printer's error left out the first 2 numbers of the date "15" on the title page. In this copy these numbers have been added in ink. At the bottom of the title page is the ownership signature of the Dutch author/editor "Petrus Burmanus, Jun." (1713-1778). The front free endpaper has another ownership inscription inked out, only leaving the date 1594.	$1,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
The very rare first printing of the works of Secundus, the Dutch Neo Latin poet, who died in 1536 at the age of 25. The verses were collected by the author's brothers and were printed in Utrecht in 1541. The famous erotic poem "Basia" (the Kisses) had been printed alone in Lyon in 1539. BL Dutch STC p. 185.
