(AMERICANA) Horn, Hosea B. HORN'S OVERLAND GUIDE, From the U. S. Indian Sub-Agency, Council Bluffs, on the Missouri River, to the City of Sacramento in California. New York: J. H. Colton. 1852. 16mo. 83,(1)pp. plus the 18pp. Colton catalog, and a large folding map, outlined in red. Orig. cloth, gilt and blind stamped. Top of spine very slightly rubbed, otherwise an unusually fine copy.	$8,500.00 (trade discount allowed)
This is the first edition, second issue (as usually found) with the "opinions of the press" on page five, and the longer pagination of the main text. Howes (H628) calls this guide, "the best handbook for the central route available at the time." A very useful practical guide for the overland traveler. Few copies have survived in fine condition. Wagner-Camp 214; Wheat, Gold Rush 105; Wheat, Gold Regions 221; Streeter Sale 3170.
