BISHOP, Elizabeth (Junior Editor) [McCARTHY, Mary] [RUKEYSER, Muriel].
THE 1933 VASSARION. Poughkeepsie, NY: Senior Class/Vassar College,
[1933]. First Edition. Quarto (7-3/4" x 10-3/4") bound in blue cloth
with a decorative black on silver label on the front cover. Elizabeth
Bishop's junior and Mary McCarthy's senior yearbook at Vassar. In
addition to the senior picture of McCarthy, she is also listed and
possibly pictured in the cast of a play (with Bishop!) and is listed as
a star reporter on the Vassar Miscellany News. While Bishop is not
listed on the editorial staff, she is in the picture of the staff as
well as on the staff of the Vassarion and the college choir. Muriel
Rukeyser is listed on the editorial board of the Vassar Review, though
she was absent for the picture. Two small photographs of a student,
along with a class of 1933 blue sash laid in. A Near Fine, fresh copy
internally with a sunned spine and some marking and rubbing to the
covers. (#017269) $600.00

BISHOP, Elizabeth (Editor-in-Chief). THE 1934 VASSARION. Poughkeepsie:
Senior Class/Vassar College, [1934]. First Edition. Quarto (7-3/4" x
10-3/4") bound in velvet-covered boards. Elizabeth Bishop's senior
yearbook at Vassar, of which she was the editor-in-chief. This can
certainly be considered, as anyone who has ever been in charge of a
yearbook may tell you, Bishop's first book, predating NORTH & SOUTH by
12 years. Profusely illustrated, with two photographs of Bishop, her
senior photograph and a group shot of the yearbook staff. Underclassman
Muriel Rukeyser has a poem here also. A scarce Bishop item, and the best
copy of the several we have handled over the course of 25 years. A few,
inevitable marks to the velvet. A Fine, fresh copy with no writing
within other than the 1934 name of a classmate on the front free
endpaper. (#017233) $2,000.00
