EMPIRE OF THE ATOM. A small Archive of material pertaining to the 
publication of EMPIRE OF THE ATOM in 1957, including The Certificate 
of Copyright Registration, First Statement of Royalties with two 
additional sheets of figures, Letter from the publisher to Forest J. 
Ackerman regarding strong disapproval of the manner in which he has 
handled subsidiary sales of the paperback and book club editions, and 
a Signed, 8x10 black & white photograph of van Vogt, inscribed to 
the publisher, signed & with his address on the verso. All from 
the Archives of Shasta Press, Publisher.

Description:

A small Archive of material pertaining to the publication of EMPIRE 
OF THE ATOM in 1957. Included is: a) The Certificate of Copyright 
Registration, one leaf, carbon copy, registering 'Empire of the 
Atom', certifying van Vogt as author and Shasta as Publishers, with 
the date of publication give as December 28, 1956. With the library 
of Congress seal. The original would have been kept by the LoC. b) 
First Statement of Royalties on 'Empire of the Atom', as of June 30, 
1957; total sales 1999 copies, total royalties due to van Vogt of 
$491.79 (less $200.00 advance). Signed by T.E. Dikty and Erle M. 
Korshak. On Shasta Press Letterhead. Accompanied by two additional 
sheets of paper, the longhand notes on Sales and Returns, with 
printed addingmachine tape affixed with paperclips. c) A letter from 
the publisher to Forest J. Ackerman, acting as agent for the 
paperback & book club rights to 'Empire of the Atom', stating clearly 
Shasta's strong disapproval of what appear to be the mishandling of 
funds received from Pocket Books and the Doubleday Book Club on sales 
of the book. Dated 24 July 1957, on Shasta Press letterhead, signed 
by T.E. Dikty. d) A signed, 8x10 glossy black & white photograph of 
van Vogt, inscribed by van Vogt on the front "For Erle Melvin Korshak 
/ Friend and Publisher / A.E. Van Vogt, additionally signed & with 
his address on the verso. All enclosed in a manila folder titled 'VAN 
VOGT, A.E. "The Gods Series". From the Archives of Shasta Press, Publisher.
