Hong Kong & China. PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM OF VERNACULAR IMAGES OF HONG KONG AND
TSINGTAO, CHINA, TAKEN BY US NAVY YEOMAN, J.W. BRYANT, IN 1948: with
ephemera laid in. Original photograph album. Contains 110 b&w photographs
(some 3.75"x2.5", some 4"x3", the largest 8"x5.75"). Photos are mounted to
both sides of heavy black paper, the leaves separated by tissue guards with
a dragon motif. Laid in is the itinerary of the voyage from San Francisco
to Tsingtao (7 Sept to 8 Nov, 1948). Also laid in are 2pp-4pp fact sheets
on Guam, Okinawa, Tsingtao, and Hong Kong, along with an issue of "The Pine
Knot" and the Thanksgiving menu (shipboard printings). Housed in a tooled
leather album, showing the Pier Pagoda in Tsinglao, China; leather edge
stitching, snap closure. Inside the cover is the advertising card of A.H.
King, Tailor of Tsingtao. Album measures 10.5" x 7.25" Very Good. Tooled
calf.
Yeoman Second Class Bryant served aboard the USS "Pine Island."  Enroute to
China, the ship docked at Pearl Harbor, Guam, and Manila (4 days), and
spent three days in Okinawa on the return voyage. $850.00
