(ALDINE PRESS) Valerius Maximus. DICTORUM ET FACTORUM MEMORABILIUM, Libri Novem. (Venice): Aldus. 1502. Sm. 8vo. ff.(212). First state (see below). Aldine anchor and dolphin on title page and bottom of final leaf. Title leaf with a minor chip at blank fore-edge. Title somewhat soiled, and with some small ink spots. Old signature crossed out below device. A few small pin-hole worm tracks, but overall quite clean internally. 19th century vellum with yapped fore-edge.  Vellum is rather dirt soiled. Two bookplates; of Hamilton White Swift and Charles Walker Andrews.    $1,250.00 (trade discount allowed)
The first state is identified by having 212 leaves, not 216 leaves (second state) and by the date of October, 1502 on A2, rather than April, 1503 (second state). The first state is very uncommon.
