PORTER, Katherine Anne. SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH of the SHIP OF FOOLS.
Photographic 8" x 10" copy print produced by the Peabody Museum of Salem
of the ship that served as the model for the vessel in Porter's
acclaimed novel SHIP OF FOOLS. INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Porter. In full:
"For Robert Forrest: This ship, Nord Deutscher Lloyd 'Werra' is the
original of my ship 'Vera' in 'Ship of Fools.' The novel is based on my
diary of my first voyage to Europe. I sailed with her from Vera Cruz,
Mexico, August 22 to Bremerhaven, Germany, September 17, 1931. Bon
Voyage! Katherine Anne Porter, 3d July 1971." Matted and framed. Near
Fine, can be shipped without frame.
SHIP OF FOOLS sold more copies than any other novel published in 1962.
