The Gentleman's Magazine: and Historical Chronicle. For the Year MDCCXCI [1791]. Volume LXI. Part the First [and] Part the Second. London: Printed by John Nichols for David Henry and sold by Eliz. Newberry, 1791. Twelve monthly issues (Jan.-Dec.), plus the supplement, volume title, indices and preface. Two volumes, thick 8vo (22.25 cm), in early/period half calf and marbled boards; iv, 591, [17] pp.; [592]-1241, [17] pp.; with 39 copper-engraved plates, one of which is folding (complete).

With extensive coverage of the FRENCH REVOLUTION and the growing tumult across the Channel: semi-monthly Proceedings of the National Assembly of France; the National Assembly's address to the King, Queen and Dauphin, and their answers; Resignation of the Marquis de la Fayette; the French King's Escape from Paris (and subsequent recapture); the French King accepts the New Constitution; etc., etc.

Other features of note include:

	- Letter from Governor Philip to Lord Sydney, "dated Sydney Cove, Feb. 13, 1790," re. BOTANY BAY and potential sites for settlements.
	- The BIRMINGHAM RIOTS, Dr. Joseph Priestley's address to the inhabitants, the rioters tried, etc.

	- PLATES include: a Gentoo Fanatick suffering Voluntary Torture; a Temporary Building erected at Gibraltar in honour of Prince Edward; the New Bridge at Derry; a View of Bristol; a plan of Godston Nunnery; views of Marsden Church, Burghope House, the Ruins of Clomines, the Place House in Horton, etc., etc.
	- Plus parliamentary debates, poetry, monthly Prices of Stocks and Goods, Accounts of Theatrical Performances, Reviews and Extracts of Books recently published, Obituaries, Bills of Mortality, lists of Bankrupts and Promotions; and much more.
Spines dried, rubbed and cracking, hinges cracked but holding; worming to the bottom fore-corners of the first few leaves in both vols.; vol. I with three leaves (including one plate) loose, causing toning and wear to the edges and a tear to a text leaf, creases to the last seven leaves of the index; mild general toning to the contents, occasional offsetting to the plates, a few scattered small spots; otherwise clean. Front paste-down with the engraved armorial bookplate of J. Comyns, Wood [Devon].
