[Marguerite Gardiner,] Countess of Blessington: Conversations of Lord Byron with the Countess of Blessington. London: Henry Colburn, 1834. FIRST EDITION; 8vo in full tree calf, borders, spine and spine label tooled in gilt, silk ribbon marker; iv, 412 pp.; publisher’s adverts at the rear.

Lady Blessington’s chatty and revealing memoir of her time with Lord Byron in Italy. A very fine copy, handsomely bound. A couple of small scratches/marks to the boards, two faint spots to the fore-edge of the text block, but these are the nit-pickiest of quibbles: both the binding and contents are virtually flawless and the book appears as if unread. Front paste-down with the engraved armorial bookplate of Edward Nicholas Hurt, who (judging by this book and a set of Byron’s works we’re also offering this week) clearly took fastidious care of his library.
