James Thomson: The Seasons. A new edition. Adorned with a set of engravings, from original paintings. Together with an original Life of the Author, and a Critical Essay on the Seasons. By Robert Heron. Perth: Printed by R. Morison Junior, for R. Morison and Son, Booksellers, MDCCCXCIII [1793]. First edition thus, 4to (24.5 cm), in full early/period straight-grained crimson morocco, tooled and lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, all page edges gilt; [2], 6, lii, 250, 39, [1] pp; engraved portrait frontispiece, additional engraved title-page ("Morison's Edition of Thornton's Seasons") with an oval vignette view by Kirkwood, and 7 engraved plates, mostly by Chesham after Corbould and Caton (complete). ESTC T102386.

A handsome production, as the printer-publisher himself boasts in his prefatory dedication to Hugh Blair: "In the present edition, we have endeavoured to give [the poem] every recommendation which can be derived from valuable Engravings, beauty of paper, elegance of type, and correctness of printing." Binding a bit rubbed and marked, with wear to the corners and sunning to the spine; some light browning and spotting to the edges of the plates, light offsetting to the text leaves opposite, a few small scattered spots to the text here and there, otherwise the contents are very clean and sharp, firmly bound. A nice copy. Front free-endpaper with the dainty ownership signature of Elizabeth Manning, dated 1849.
